Fluids in SteamPlot

This page describes how to select a fluid in the SteamPlot application. This page also contains a list of fluids supported by the SteamPlot application.

Scroll down to the list of the supported fluids below, click on the flask icon near the fluid's name to view that fluid's properties or click on the calculator icon to start the SteamPlot application for that fluidScroll to the list

Setting a fluid for thermodynamic calculations

SteamPlot application requires a user to select a fluid. The fluid is used to determine a thermodynamic state according to the user's input. The SteamPlot application provides multiple ways to select a fluid:

  • through the Fluid module in the application,
  • by clicking on the calculator icon near the fluid's name in the list of fluids on this page (clicking on the icon will start the application) or
  • by setting the appropriate URL query parameters while accessing the application.

If a user does not select any fluid, then water will be set by default.

IMPORTANT: When changing a fluid in the SteamPlot application, all points and groups will be removed and a single critical point will be created instead.

Using URL query parameters to set a fluid

URL query parameters can be used to set a fluid when accessing the SteamPlot application. URL query parameters are appended to the end of the URL address. Key should be fluid or fld. Value should be fluid's name or any of the aliases. Aliases of each fluid are displayed in the list of fluids, in the gray boxes.

For example, to set carbon dioxide while accessing the SteamPlot application, use any of the following URL addresses:

IMPORTANT: Keys of URL query parameters are case-sensitive, so following URL addresses would not be recognized by the SteamPlot application. Values are not case-sensitive:
